There is an urgent need for collective action to mitigate the consequences of climate change and adapt to unavoidable changes. The complexity of climate change issues can pose educational challenges. Nonetheless, education has a key role to play in ensuring that younger generations have the required knowledge and skills to understand issues surrounding climate change, to avoid despair, to take action, and to be prepared to live in a changing world. The Office for Climate Education (OCE) was founded in 2018 to promote strong international cooperation between scientific organisations, educational institutions and NGOs. The overall aim of the OCE is to ensure that the younger generations of today and tomorrow are educated about climate change. Teachers have a key role to play in their climate education and it is essential that they receive sufficient support to enable them to implement effective lessons on climate change. The OCE has developed a range of educational resources and professional development modules to support them in teaching about climate change with active pedagogy

Langfassung : Zusammenfassung für Lehrende : basierend auf dem IPCC-Sonderbericht über Klimawandel und Landsysteme (SRCCL)

Klimawandel und Landsysteme Die Landnutzung ist für etwa 23% aller Treibhaus­gasemissionen verantwortlich. Die Landsysteme tragen zum Klimawandel bei, sind aber gleichzeitig sehr anfäl­lig für die Folgen des Klimawandels. Um diesen Zusammenhang besser zu ver­stehen, hat der IPCC einen Sonderbericht zu "Klimawandel und Landsysteme" erstellt. Dieser Sonderbericht ist Teil des sechsten Sachstandsberichts (AR6). Mehr als 100 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus 52 Ländern haben zwei Jahre lang an der Erstellung dieses Sonderberichts gearbeitet. Der Bericht wurde im August 2019 in Genf (Schweiz) von den Regierungen aller Mitglieds­staaten des IPCCs angenommen. Eine Zusammenfassung speziell für Lehrende Jeder Bericht enthält eine Zusammenfassung für Entscheidungsträger (Summa­ry for Policy Makers), die kompakt und einfach zu lesen und zu verstehen ist. Da diese nicht speziell an die Bedürfnisse von Lehrenden angepasst ist, hat das Office for Climate Education (OCE) die vorliegende Zusammenfassung für Lehrerinnen und Lehrer verfasst. Sie enthält u. a. eine Reihe von Aktivitäten und Übungen, die im Schulunterricht umgesetzt werden können

Added value of 18F-florbetaben amyloid PET in the diagnostic workup of most complex patients with dementia in France: A naturalistic study

International audienceIntroductionAlthough some studies have previously addressed the clinical impact of amyloid positron emission tomography (PET), none has specifically addressed its selective and hierarchical implementation in relation to cerebrospinal fluid analysis in a naturalistic setting.MethodsThis multicenter study was performed at French tertiary memory clinics in patients presenting with most complex clinical situations (i.e., early-onset, atypical clinical profiles, suspected mixed etiological conditions, unexpected rate of progression), for whom cerebrospinal fluid analysis was indicated but either not feasible or considered as noncontributory (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02681172).ResultsTwo hundred five patients were enrolled with evaluable florbetaben PET scans; 64.4% of scans were amyloid positive. PET results led to changed diagnosis and improved confidence in 66.8% and 81.5% of patients, respectively, and altered management in 80.0% of cases.DiscussionHigh-level improvement of diagnostic certainty and management is provided by selective and hierarchical implementation of florbetaben PET into current standard practices for the most complex dementia cases
